Precision Gear Manufacturing Solutions for Optimal Performance

At Lawler Gear, we don’t just manufacture gears—we deliver precision gear solutions that keep your equipment and your business running at their best. For more than 45 years, our highly skilled team has specialized in gear shaping, cutting, turning, milling, grinding, inspection, and gearbox rebuilding in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, just outside of Kansas City.

Every part that leaves our shop is the result of decades of experience combined with advanced equipment, strict quality control, and a true passion for craftsmanship.

Our 31,000-square-foot production center, renovated and modernized in 1989 and again in 1996, houses a wide range of specialized machines. With a Zeiss Contura G2 CMM, GearPro software, and other specialized inspection tools, we verify every critical detail, from tooth profile to lead alignment, so you know your gears meet exact specifications.

Gear Capabilities That Deliver Results

Our capabilities aren’t just a list of machines (though we’ve included that below)—they’re the backbone of the services we provide:

  • Gear Cutting & Shaping: Our CNC gear hobbers and shapers allow us to produce spur, helical, bevel, worm, and rack gears with exacting precision. Whether you need one custom part or high-volume production, we can handle it.
  • Turning & Milling: With multiple CNC lathes, vertical turning lathes (VTLs), and machining centers, we create consistent, accurate parts while also handling larger gears and complex geometries.
  • Gear Grinding: For applications that demand ultra-fine finishes and the tightest tolerances, our OD, internal, and hob grinders produce gears that meet the highest performance standards.
  • Broaching & Keyseating: We machine custom keyways, splines, and slots to ensure proper fit and reliable torque transfer.
  • Welding & Fabrication: Our welding and support equipment allow us to handle modifications, repairs, and rebuilds efficiently in-house.
  • Inspection & Quality Control: We verify every critical detail, from tooth profile to lead alignment, so you know your gears meet exact specifications.

Gearbox Rebuilding: Backed by heavy-duty presses, cleaning equipment, and paint booths, we can disassemble, repair, and restore gearboxes of all sizes to like-new condition.

Why Our Gear Capabilities Matter

Every piece of equipment in our shop is there for one reason: to give our customers custom solutions that work. By combining traditional machining expertise with modern technology and advanced inspection systems, we can manufacture gears that perform reliably—even under the most demanding conditions.

When you work with Lawler Gear, you’re not just getting a manufacturer. You’re getting a partner who can design, inspect, and rebuild your components all under one roof. That means faster turnaround times, better quality control, and the confidence that comes with knowing your gears are built to last.
